It then moves on to discuss what crimes and which defendants are eligible for treatment under prop. 36. Sentencing options and handling violations of court mandated probation are explored. Finally, the course discusses unresolved issues concerning when and how a defendant is deemed to have successfully completed drug treatment. Throughout the course, the student will be asked to work through hypothetical case situations to reinforce the materials presented. Lecturer: Michael Reinhart Recently a guest lecturer on Ethics and Law at California State University Fresno, Mr. Reinhart is a 25 year veteran trial lawyer with more than 100 jury trials completed. His trial record includes the first ever successful prosecution of the infamous Hells Angels under California’s criminal gang statutes, a death verdict in the double homicide case of People v Potts and the first ever introduction of “chemical fingerprinting” evidence at trial in California. Mr. Reinhart is presently a Chief Deputy District Attorney and has taught seminars to the California District Attorneys Association, California probation departments, and numerous law enforcement agencies.
